Shasta Advisory. The brand that made a firm of one read like an institution

Shasta Advisory brand identity designed by The Shadow Legacy

The challenge

Carol Kim spent a career inside the rooms most consultants only write reports about: senior health policy advisor to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on a $4 billion health system serving ten million residents; builder of a $170M impact-investment operation inside a Fortune 100, deploying over $40M in three years; senior advisory roles in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Department of the Treasury; today, chair of a committee overseeing a $4 billion portfolio. Then she founded a firm of one. The brand problem was brutal in its simplicity: a solo advisory practice defaults to looking like a freelancer, and nothing about her belonged in that category.

The move

We built Shasta Advisory's identity and website to read the way Carol operates: as an executive peer, not a vendor. Institutional structure and restraint carrying the weight of her résumé; a clear three-offer service architecture; proof placed forward: testimonials from a Super Bowl champion founder, a former California State Senator, an FDA-adjacent startup CEO; and one deliberate signature of personality (her neon-pink pinwheel mark) alive inside the serious frame, so the firm reads as hers, not generic. Biography converted into authority, page by page.

The result

A first-year, founder-led firm presenting at the level of the institutions its founder has advised (Senate, Treasury, Fortune 100), live at shastaadvisory.com, with the studio's credit in the footer. When the person who chairs a $4B portfolio needs her own brand built, this is what she chose. In her words: "The final product far exceeded my expectations. And I've gotten great feedback from people who've seen my website."

“I first came across this duo team, The Shadow Legacy, after seeing their incredible work for a colleague. I made a mental note back then and when I finally decided to invest in building my own website, they were my first call.

With all of today's AI tools, I could have built a website with brand logo and color scheme. As a bootstrapped entrepreneur, I considered a DIY approach. But I was looking for more. I knew a collaborative process with real experts and creatives could truly translate not just what I do, but who I am and what it feels like to work with me.

They took the time to understand my career and life stage, my personality, and my passions that drive the work I do. The final product far exceeded my expectations. And I've gotten great feedback from people who've seen my website.

What I value most is that our relationship didn't end when the website launched and the final invoice was paid. They're still available when I need a quick, second opinion on a design idea or want to think through a new project. That kind of ongoing partnership is rare and increasingly needed in an AI era.

If you just want a website, there are tons of places you can do it. But if you want thoughtful collaborators who take time and care to understand and embody your persona and vision, Vanja and Andjela are your people.”
